Photographers have traditionally gone to great lengths to avoid the introduction of lens-flare to their images, and unarguably it’s good practice to avoid it in the main. However, there are definitely occasions when it adds to the resulting picture, placing the camera and therefore the viewer more fully in the moment. Contextualising the photograph, adding texture and dimension, giving the viewer visual queues that enable them to more fully appreciate the image.

In short… I quite like lens-flares! Over the next few days I’ll be posting some of my favourite images featuring them.

p.s. Europe is currently in the grip of winter, so there’s another good reason to post a picture featuring some sunshine! 😉
